Welcome to my blog. I hope you enjoy your stay, however short, and find something that interests and blesses you.

The tabs just below will take you to posts of particular topics. So if you are looking for my posts on food, fitness or creativity, you will find them there. You will also find my posts on thankfulness or other more contemplative posts, as well as a set of posts with traditional blessings from a number of different cultures.

You can find posts with labels not included in that list via the labels list over in the sidebar.

Advent 2006 - THE BOX

I found this box on ebay a few weeks ago and was fortunate enough to win it.

Did you count them? That's right, 24 little hinged boxes, with a lovely display area in the middle. I knew right there and then this was to be MY Advent gift to myself, no sweets (candy) and miniature toys going in this box.

The first job was to mask up the box, so I could use more than one colour, and then a trip to the DIY store to get a couple of match pots. I could have gone traditional red and green? I could have tried silver and gold? Instead I chose . . . . well, remember, this is a girlie box. . . . . see for yourself:Then I had to put the numbers on somehow. Hmmm, my handwriting isn't neat enough to try that? Pel offs? Or stickers? So I took a trip to the craft store, and guess what I found, sheets of number stickers in LILAC! To match the box, OH YES!

Can you see the slips of paper? Those are from yesterday and today. Each box has 3 slips of paper in them. The white slips are something to do for another person, maybe write a thank you letter, maybe make a phone call, maybe leave a secret gift for someone, that kind of thing.

The pink ones are part of our giving chain this year. So each day a piece of paper reminds us to count our blessings, asks us to count how many we have of something and donate into a pot accordingly. The money from that pot will be given to a charity of my choice at the end of the season.

And the red ones? You'll have to go read at my food and fitness blog, to find out what that is.

ADVENT 2006

Many many things I will share as part of my advent celebrations here on on Zoe's Blog!

First, let me share about an art journal class I am taking over at Shimelle's:

I'm really looking forward to this, but I am already BEHIND! Yep, blame it on that Tonsillitis, but I didn't get signed up until the morning the class started, and didn't get my journal until today!

I am trying to post a photo of my supplies so far, to no avail. Here you go, I sorted it:

For now, MY Manifesto for this journal, for this year:

Manifesto: Noun. A declaration of one's intentions.

Starting December first, I will keep a Christmas journal. In it, I will write something every day to reflect on the holidays of my past, enjoy the holidays of the present and dream about the holidays of my future. To some, this will be a stack of papers and trivial scribbles, but not to me. I am taking back my Christmas, I am letting it be something I relish and, most importantly, I am giving at least fifteen minutes every day to myself no matter how crazy this season becomes. I hope you will share, encourage and understand as I make something with my own hands, my own words and my own memories.

I may post some or all of my entries here. Other artists are doing this with me, and you can see there work at Written Down. Or you may join us.

Above all: enjoy the season.
I will.

Other things I am doing this advent to follow in another post.
